IN DEFIANCE OF EDEN

What if the apple was never eaten?
Temptation titillating to the verge of self-combustion
Lured inextricably over chasm edge
Plunging into a legacy born of fruit folly
Apple antics
A lazy and cunning attempt by the fledgling Intellect
To shackle Humanity to its servitude
Seven billion and counting
Golden handcuffs or pickaxe
Slavery either way
In cotton fields or gleaming metropolitan towers
For those flabbergasted by glitter
It’s not always gold, you know
Corporate cogs continue to grind down
The seeds of many apple trees
So grind ’em up, Turners of the Wheel
Minions in glimmering handcuffs
Fake gold
For there must be more orchards, more apples
More allure to lure
How strange the temptation to love oneself fully
Is resisted time and again
Because of guilt digested
When the apple was first bitten
