GYPSY’S PARADOX

Belonging is a gypsy’s curse
Words uttered by a roaming tongue that can never rest
Ever flapping through a vernacular of timelines
Conveying language illegible
Understood perhaps in the crackle of a campfire
Or in the spread of sunset clouds
To belong
To be long
Do I measure up?
To be longing for
Yearning for something outside the Self
Can I not be satisfied to inhabit this body fully
Without needing anything else
But this orgasmic breath?
Belonging, a gypsy’s curse
Perpetuated by desire
To de-sire oneself
Dethroned of one’s own power
No longer the monarch of self sovereignty
To desire declares that the soul is not enough
Yet the soul doesn’t need to belong to anything
Because it is a galaxy
Dawning on the brink of multi-coloured nebulae
Splashed by comet streaks
The biggest bang of them all
Belonging, such a dangerous proposition
Easier, perhaps, to stay on the fringes
Yet the allure to feel campfire flame
So strong
So primal
The need to syncopate voices
In songs spanning dimensions
Too velvety to resist
To be longing
To be yearning for
Something always out of reach
The gypsy’s curse
An insatiable paradox
